JOB DESCRIPTION HEARD COUNTY SCHOOLS: School Bus Driver

FLSA JOB CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services & Bus Fleet Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Educational Level: High School Education or GED preferred

 

2. Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License with S and P and air brake endorsements required to drive a school bus. No CDL required to apply for position. Valid Class A, B or C Driver’s License needed in order to apply for position; required to have held a valid driver’s license for a minimum of three years prior to application date; must be able to obtain PERMIT for Commercial Driver’s License before entering Bus Driver Training Program.

 

3. Experience: Must successfully complete Bus Driver Training Program provided by Heard County Transportation Department; must successfully complete a 20-day Probationary Period with an evaluation for continued employment

 

4. Physical Activities: Lifting, bending, sitting for prolonged periods, upper body mobility, ability to lift equipment and/or student weighing 40 pounds; pre-employment and annual physical examination required

 

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication

JOB OBJECTIVES:

? Make visual inspection of bus before operating by conducting a pre-trip inspection.

? Perform necessary tasks to keep bus in operation: oil, fuel, air, etc.

? Report accidents, breakdowns, disciplinary problems, and route changes as directed by the transportation office.

? Observe all traffic laws, safety procedures and conserve the property of taxpayers in the best possible manner.

? Report all traffic tickets the next business day.

? Maintain route sheets; service and inspection schedules.

? Maintain a professional appearance.

? Maintain cleanliness of inside and outside of bus.

? Maintain proper operation of accessories, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kit and reflectors.

? Abide by rules and regulations established by the Board of Education.

? Work with Transportation Office to adjust routes as necessary to give best service to schools and students and attend scheduled safety meetings.

? Attend mandated state bus driver training annually.

? Know capabilities and/or when to request or use outside assistance.

? Turn in all route, student rosters and field trip forms within 5 business days.

? Other duties as assigned.
