SUMMARY:

Hybrid position performing maintenance and janitorial duties for Heard County Schools’ athletic

facilities. Ability to perform minor building maintenance and grounds maintenance tasks.  Employees in this position place a high priority on responding to customer service needs and providing quality service. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Frequent walking, standing, lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 100 pounds may be required. Work is typically performed walking or standing. Other working conditions include working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock and exposure to germs and potentially blood-borne pathogens. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for diagnosing and repairing maintenance and mechanical problems; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. 

 

JOB OBJECTIVES:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Cleans and maintains floors, bleachers and stadium seating areas, walls and windows; empties trash and recycling containers; keeps recycle and garbage containers clean inside and out of assigned areas.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/shower rooms and fixtures. Replaces tissue and restroom supplies.
  • Responds to and cleans up spills and sanitary hazards using appropriate infection control materials and techniques.
  • Daily litter pick-up of grounds, parking lots, ball fields, dugouts, bleachers, and spectator areas
  • Locks and unlocks buildings; secures facilities when not in use by checking for unlocked doors, and windows.  Reports any unauthorized occupants or suspicious circumstances to the school administration.
    • Facilities include GPAC, Weight Room, Athletic Pavilion, Field House, Old Gym (upstairs and downstairs), baseball press box, softball press box, and football press box.
  • Use hand equipment and power equipment such as broom, mop, squeegee, vacuum, blower, or pressure washer as necessary to clean and maintain facilities; use ladders as required for assignments.
  • May occasionally perform minor maintenance tasks such as resetting circuit breakers, turning off water in emergencies, replacing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes (using up to an eight-foot ladder) or performing basic facility maintenance functions such as painting and minor carpentry repairs.  Refers major facility problems to immediate supervisor.
  • May occasionally set up and move furniture, field or game equipment for special events, and return to original location after program has ended.
  • May occasionally, under direct supervision, make minor repairs to electrical switches, plumbing fixtures, clogged drains, water and ball field irrigation lines.
  • Ability to install, repair, and maintain machinery, plumbing, physical structure, and electrical wiring and fixtures of school buildings in accordance with blue-prints, manuals, building codes, and safety regulations, using hand tools and carpenter’s, electrician’s and plumber’s tools.
  • Inspect machinery and mechanical equipment for defects.
  • Paint walls, floors, woodwork, and fixtures, using appropriate materials and tools.
  • Performs preventative maintenance to equipment as needed.
  • Assist with snow/ice/debris removal around campus operations as directed.
  • Adheres to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of equipment and supplies.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Report all accidents and/or potential hazards to the Director of Student Services immediately or as soon as possible.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Observe and promote safe work practices and procedures at all times.
  • Uses and wears safety and/or protective equipment, as appropriate.
  • Attends in-service training to develop and improve knowledge and skills.
  • Reports to and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services in accordance with policies and practices. May receive daily work assignments and take additional direction, receive technical guidance and communication of assignments from Athletic Director or HS Principal as assigned.
